Poetry Aloud 2015

Congratulations to three of our students who have reached the national final of Poetry Aloud 2015 which will take place in the National Library, Kildare Street on Friday, 4th December. Jodie Milne – 5th year (Senior), Abbi Lennon – 3rd year (Intermediate) and Narcisa Toma – 3rd year (Intermediate) have already successfully competed in a Leinster heat and national semi-final to win their place in the final. In fact, this is the second time that Jodie and Narcisa will compete in a Poetry Aloud national final.
poetry aloud
Poetry Aloud is an all-Ireland poetry competition where students get the opportunity to bring two poems to life by reciting them in front of an audience and adjudicators. 1800 students participated in this year’s competition and the girls are now in the top ten in the country in their category.
16 students from our school took part in this year’s competition; they took on the challenge of learning two poems off by heart and ‘speaking’ them in public in the National Library. This was a personal challenge for each student and advancing to a semi-final or final is the icing on the cake. Well done to all the girls who participated.

Asia Europe Classroom 2014/2015

Congratulations to students of TY1, 2014-2015. They participated in the Classroom Network News(CNN) project, led by Finland, as part of the Asia Europe Classroom Network. Six of the thirty projects were chosen for final judging at the bi-annual conference in Sofia, Bulgaria at the end of November 2015. The top three of the six obtain a gold award and the remaining three obtain a merit award. St. Michael’s students achieved a merit award, thus continuing a proud ten year tradition of serious participation in projects with the Asia Europe Classroom Network. They put together a three minute video showing different aspects of Irish life. This was then put together with three minute videos from a number of other schools from Europe and Asia. Why not take a few minutes to watch the end product.
